Walt Disney World is an amazing playground for adults and children alike. However, Disney is actually designed to be viewed from the eyes of a child. For example, the mosaic behind the water fountain by Cinderella’s castle actually “crowns” Cinderella, but only from a child’s perspective. Taking children to the parks will take more planning than traveling with adults, however it will also be filled with extra pixie dust. Plan, Plan, Plan! What are the crowds, temperatures and hours like when you will visit? Are there any special events going on? Try to travel in the off-season with children. There will be fewer crowds and therefore less waiting in line, and the hours are often shorter which means you will not be getting exhausted trying to squeeze every hour out of the parks. Decide if you are going to let the children decide where to go, or if you are going to usher them around the park. Are they allowed to buy souvenirs? If you are on a budget, give each child a spending amount. Not only will it give you leverage to say “No” to unnecessary spending, it will also teach children the value of money.Be Flexible! While planning is important before you arrive, flexibility is key once you are in Disney World. Kids get tired and cranky easily, so be prepared to go back to the hotel for an afternoon nap. Don’t try to fit everything in. If you plan for evening Extra Magic Hours, don’t expect to make the morning Extra Magic hours the next day. By keeping everyone fully rested the trip will be much more enjoyable. Explain to the children that Disney is a really big place and that they won’t get to do absolutely everything ahead of time. This will be much easier for them to understand if they aren’t exhausted from already trying.Magic Kingdom. The Magic Kingdom is the park most closely associated with all that is Disney. It is also the most important park when bringing young children to Disney. From Cinderella’s Castle, to Mickey’s Toontown, the magic will enthrall kids. Take a break from the rides and get an autograph or picture with a character. Or take a boat ride around Tom Sawyer’s Island for some time to sit and relax while still seeing the parks. You can even pass time by looking for Hidden Mickey’s.Keep a “Rumbly Tumbly” at Bay.Keeping everyone fed and hydrated is especially important while in the parks.
